Roseville-area residents are being advised to check certain cookie concoctions sold as fundraisers at several local schools and churches because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Affected peanut butter cookies and cookie dough are believed to have been distributed at Roseville’s Sierra Gardens Elementary, Rocklin’s Spring View Middle School and Whitney High School, the Dry Creek district’s Olive Grove Elementary and Loomis’ Del Oro High School. In addition, Roseville’s Valley Springs Church was also identified as a distribution point.

The sources were announced Wednesday by the California Department of Public Health.

The products were produced by Dough-To-Go, Inc., of Santa Clara and distributed in 30 California counties, where they were sold by fundraiser groups between August 2008 and January 16, 2009. Officials believe the products used peanut butter from a Georgia plant associated with the salmonella outbreak that has led to a widespread national recall affecting numerous products.

More than 500 people have been sickened by the salmonella outbreak in dozens of states. No Dough-To-Go products have yet been identified as causing sickness, but health experts believe they could be tainted. They advise consumers not to eat or handle the products.

The cookies and cookie dough are not part of the national School Lunch Program.

According to a news release, consumers can check the product directly by examining the lot codes printed on the side of the product’s box. The following lot codes have been recalled:
