Staff report

After 18 years of service to the city of Roseville, Tom Freeman is retiring as the city’s Chief Information Officer.

Although his retirement becomes official later this month, Freeman will continue to manage the Information Technology department for the remainder of the year.

Hired in 1991 by City Manager Craig Robinson, Freeman has piloted several projects that have become vital services to the city including upgrading Roseville’s telephone system, providing the downtown area with free wireless access and creating web-based applications for residents using the city’s website.

“Tom tackled many challenging projects and always delivered, ensuring the city could deliver services efficiently,” Robinson said in a news release.

Robinson also said that Freeman played a key role in helping the city recognize and put into place innovative ideas to better serve Roseville residents.

“His successor will have to be someone who understands that technology does not slow down and that we must always use it to help improve the quality of lives of our citizens,” Robinson said in a news release.
