Will the weather lead to an increase in upsets?
As the football playoffs arrive, the single-elimination format takes a major role in the story each Friday night. The question on our minds at Placer Sports revolves around the possibility of first-round upsets. Do you see any potential high seeds out there who might be ticketed for an early exit? Our current poll question at placersports.com seeks your thoughts on three specific games where teams in our coverage area enter as lower-seeded teams, but we inviite you to log on and share your thoughts about any game in the bracket where you see the chance of a top dog biting the dust. Take a minute to selet which one of our three selections is most likely to produce an upset, and then share your comments about other games. Can defending section champion Whitney, a No. 5 seed in Division IV-A really be considered an underdog when it goes on the road to No. 4 Sonora? Can the Wildcats topple the Wildcats and set up a possible rematch with Lincoln in round two? What about Colfax, the eighth seed in Division IV-B? Any chance the Falcons go to unbeaten and top-seeded Modesto Christian and pull off a shocker? No. 13 Woodcreek has a 4-6 record in Division II, but the Timberwolves have provided Del Campo with its only loss of the season and delivered one of its two losses to Del Oro. Will the stars align for the Timberwolves again when the travel to No. 4 Folsom Friday night? Will the rain and wind that is in the forecast for Friday have any impact on these or other games? Can weather be an equalizer that leads to a series of upsets? Or will the presence of all of those turf fields negate that possibility? Tell us what high seeds you see having trouble in round one and beyond by leaving your comments below or at the bottom of our poll question at www.placersports.com .

I see the Whitney headstrokers are littering sacbee's forum patting each other on the back callling out Lincoln as usual. Hopefully if a rematch is in the cards and Lincoln pulls it out a second time, they will just take thier ball, go home and say no more. Ahh, who am I kiidding, they will probably start talking about LASTYEARS 2008
Why bother leaving a comment if they aren't going to post it!?! (Left a comment on the placersports.com poll 6+ hours ago and it still hasn't displayed!! DOH!!)
whoops, inadvertantly hit enter tab. AHEM! As I was saying, start talking about last years 2008 whitney team. I'm not gonna make any predictions until a rematch is in the cards. Till then, GO ZEEEEBS!
Wet weather tends to favor passing teams - the unsure footing is murder on defensive backs and pash rushers. High winds can cancel out that advantage, however. A wet field with high winds favors a straight ahead running attack without a lot of ball handling that leads to fumbles. Cutback runners and attacks that rely on motion and deception suffer with poor footing and wet footballs (imagine the Rocklin field in a downpour - soooeee pig, pig, pig!). You running backs keep two hands on the ball and keep your direction North/South if the weathermen are right. Go Del oro!
gotta agree with vanoos---tonite is ripe for and upset or two...i like the north south sure-handed backs to excell---thing woodcreek and nunley...if the rain bails early (no pun intended) db's could be on roller skates as the receivers know where they are going. should be a great nite of f'ball...kahi am 950 for the placer game and scores from around section, sitting out the rain? kahi.com
