Cats are said to have nine lives, but when they spend most of those lives eating, what you’re left with is a fat cat.

The Placer SPCA has a handful of hefty cats in need of a home and a diet plan to get them back to their healthy svelte feline figures.

For the month of February the Placer SPCA is waiving the adoption fee for overweight cats that currently weigh in at 15 pounds or heavier, almost twice the ideal weight for a medium sized cat.

“There’s more of them to love,” said Placer SPCA CEO Leilani Vierra in a news release. “But it will be to their benefit to go to homes where they can spend time playing and getting a bit of exercise.”

Pet parents of these overweight cats should be willing to pay close attention to portion control and able to provide them with ample play and exercise time.

All Placer SPCA cat adoptions include spay or neuter surgery, microchip, vaccinations and a voucher for a free veterinary exam.
