Mosquito treatment to be conducted in Roseville Wednesday morning
The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District will conduct ground-based mosquito treatment in areas of western Placer County early Wednesday morning. The spraying will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 a.m. in the residential areas between Fiddyment Road and Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard and south of Blue Oaks to Pleasant Grove boulevards. Most of the spray area is located within the Sun City Roseville community, according to Ada Barros of the Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District. Barros said mosquito population levels in that area are exceeding threshold numbers. “We have seen significant West Nile activity west of the area, closer to the Fiddyment Farms area,” Barros said. “This particular treatment is mostly for the number of mosquitoes that are out there.” Officials will use a mechanism similar to a fogging machine attached to the backs of pickup trucks and ATVs to emit the spray, which can reach about the height of a typical roof top before dispersing, Barros said. She said the material that is used is specific for insects and the amount used is specific for insects the size of mosquitoes. “There are no significant risks to humans or their pets,” Barros said. Officials encourage residents to check the district website at www.placermosquito.org for any changes to the spraying schedule and accompanying maps of the planned treatment areas. ~ Toby Lewis
