Where you
shop matters
Reader Input
We live in the area of the Walmart “grocery store” which is supposedly coming here (Press Tribune, Dec. 28). Even if we could save a little money by buying groceries there, we pledge to continue shopping at the local Safeway store, where union workers earn a living wage which will enable them to lead middle-class lives. If this is a bit of a sacrifice, it is the least that we can do to slow down the flight of middle-class jobs and the resulting migration of wealth to the top 1 percent. Consumers should be aware that, where marginal wages put workers into the poverty class, those workers are forced to rely on public assistance, which comes out of our pockets in the long run. The 1 percent win again, and we lose. William D. Bandes, Roseville
