Roseville police have arrested a man suspected of robbing a Well Fargo Bank on Sierra College Boulevard Tuesday.

Police arrested Ogan Gencer, 20, of Roseville, Tuesday evening in Folsom after following a cell phone signal that led them to the suspect, police said.

Prior to the bank robbery, Gencer allegedly placed a phony 911 call claiming there was an emergency in another part of the city, according to Dee Dee Gunther of the Roseville Police Department.

“Apparently, he was not aware that his cell phone showed his actual location,” Gunther said.

Police used Gencer’s cell phone signal to track him down in the vicinity of a relative’s home in Folsom, where he was arrested around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Gencer is suspected of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank, located at 8850 Sierra College Blvd., at about 10:13 a.m. Tuesday.

The bank robber was wearing a long, black wig and dark clothing and handed a teller a note demanding money.

The note mentioned a gun, although no gun was seen and no injuries were reported in the incident.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen fleeing on foot toward the Safeway store at the intersection of Douglas and Sierra College boulevards.

Police searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect in the vicinity of the crime at the time.

Gencer was taken into custody and booked into the Placer County Jail on suspicion of robbery.
